The structure of thesis: introduction, three chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, references (189 titles), 5 appendixes, 123 pages, 13 figures, plus 32 tables. The results are published in 12 scientific papers.
Domain of study: The psychology of teacher’s personality.
The purpose of this study is to determine the causes of manifestation and ways of overcoming burnout syndrome at university teachers from the gender perspective. The following objectives were pursue within the research: to analyse the theoretical aspects of the problem and to identify the factors that trigger the occurrence of burnout; to establish the degree to which the university teachers from the Republic of Moldova are affected by the burnout syndrome from gender perspective, as well as the degree to which the identified factors influence the development of burnout syndrome; to elaborate and implement a Program designed to prevent and diminish the occurrence of burnout syndrome at the university teachers and to establish its efficiency.
Novelty and scientific originality. This is the first time it was undertaken, at the national level, a theoretical-empirical study of the burnout syndrome within the university environment; it was established the degree to which teachers are affected by the burnout syndrome and identified gender related differences in the process of manifestation of burnout in relation to the type of temperament, the level of stress, work experience, age and work satisfaction; it was developed the psychological profile of the university teachers predisposed to burnout and it was validated a program for prevention and reduction of the burnout syndrome occurring to university teachers.
The important scientific problem solved through this research consists in conceptualisation of the psychological profile of the professor predisposed to burnout, which has led to the elaboration of a program for preventing and diminishing the occurrence of burnout syndrome, making it possible its application within the educational system.
The theoretical significance is determined by the theoretical substantiation of the burnout syndrome concept and of the gender related differences in the process of manifestation of burnout to teachers.
The applicative value of the thesis resides in preventing the development of burnout syndrome at the teachers by using the data included in the psychological profile of the teachers predisposed to burnout syndrome; for reducing the level of burnout by implementing a program for preventing and diminishing the occurrence of burnout at university teachers, which could represent a useful tool for Human resources specialists.
Implementation of the scientific results was achieved through the teaching of courses in General Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Occupational Health and Labour Psychology; through presentations made within public symposiums, national and international conferences, as well as through the training unfolded in two secondary schools from Ocnita district.
